Transition - Project Evaluation

Image
It has now come to an end of our Transition project. It was our last project of the year - we didn't have much time to do it but we worked very well. I started off trying to pull off something on my own but Simon told me that will be difficult and to see if i could posibbly partner up with someone. He had mentioned that Conor, Katie and Laura were looking for a Director, i straight away jumped to the oppertunity and asked if they needed a posibble Director. They all agreed, since i had never worked with these individuals before i thought it would be a great to work with these team as we are sharing eachothers unknown talents! Conor was the producer, Katie the editor and Laura the DOP. As a group of 4 i feel like we really connected and developed all of our ideas. As a Director i really wanted to put myself foward, i never had people depending on me. I feel like i took on a big task, i'm not sure if i was confident enough for this kind of responsibility but i didn't want t...

Transition - Final Edit - Finished Project

Image
After taking all of Simons feedback Katie had finished her edit of the final project very quickly. She made sure to show all of us the main edit and we all gave our feedback. We were all pretty much happy with it! Katie made some changed of adding sound design to the overall project, which made it more realistic and added more atmosphere as well as the police sirens within the entire project. I had also made a comment to add some bird sound when looking at the shots of the lake and forest - this made it feel more natural. We had also taken into considiration the Riverdale logo, Katie made it herself in the middle of a scene to make it have more of a dramatic aspect - which was aproved by me. It looked much better and really made you feel the drama within the whole project. This graphic made the project unique to our version. The title sequence was added in the middle of the car driving sequence - i htought this worked very well. I know Katie also changed the credits since Simon h...

Transition - Final Cut Feedback + Meeting

Image
Today we had out final meeting with Simon about this whole project, we felt much more confident. Simon seemed pleased how we took his feedback from last time and improved out work, some of the feedback he gave us; New clips really make the montage work well We have to look into sound design, add more rain and thunder for more atmospheric feel The transition between the first diner clip and montage is way too hard, lead into it and connect it Another flow shot after moving hand before we cut back to jughead, keep pace moving Change the Riverdale logo to something original, also place it somewhere else Add more atmospheric sounds eg - birds, water etc Transition between the stormy river and diner might work much better Get more close ups of eyes - this tells a story better The police lights worked freat - Simon really liked this addition  Hold the last shot before we go back Improve the credits We can absolutely improve all these things in the time frame that we have,...

Transition - Re-shoot

Image
Since the last meeting we had with Simon he had told us that the montage we have doesn't work, it looks too much like a doccumentary and doesn't give him any 'Dreamy' feel at all. I stepped into the game and decided that we need to re-shoot that posibbly either in Ashford on Herne Bay. I found a lot of nice places to film in Herne Bay and i thought the guys should take a leap and go film there, due to work commitments i couldn't attend the shoot. I made sure i was always on hand and helping, making a direct sheet of what i want filmed and where these shots should be filmed. The first location i found was the Clock Tower - which was a great representation of the entire show. It looked a lot like the Riverdale clock tower so i was happy with the find. After some feedback from the team i know Laura kept switching between 3 lenses, they all took different shots which Simon suggested. Laura did a lot of pull focuses during these shots which i found very interesting....

Transition - Filming Day two

Image
We were really looking foward to shooting this project finally! Everyone was excited to get in the Diner and start making something fantastic. We started the shoot at around 10AM, the crea showed up to set up everything before me and Conor had to pick up the two main actors from Maidstone East. This shoot consisted of recreating the scene in the 'American Diner', it was amazing that the location was so easy to get and so close to us! The diner is used in pretty much every episode of Riverdale and it's very important, it is very atmospheric and has a dramatic feel to it everytime a scene takes place. We have never been in the diner before, and it was very interesting when we walked in! It fit my vision straight away. I wanted to make sure that the diner had a 'dramatic' aspect within the scenes, i needed the lights to be dimmed and gloomy making sure that not all characters are seen. The diner wasn't as big as we had hoped for but we still worked with it. Whe...

Transition - Filming Day One

Image
Originally we were hitting our targets and shoot days for this entire project, the first filming day that we had to do for the transition project was getting coverage and location shots. - due to me working pretty much full-time i wasn't able to attend this shoot, but this didn't stop me from Directing. I had made inputs throughout the entire filming process. I wanted to make sure that the group had gotten enough shots to include within the project. I had checked over the script and call sheet that Callum produced and i was pretty happy.   The feedback from the team was very positive, they were happy with the shots that were filmed which included filming in Capstone Country Park, Hartlip Area etc. Most of these areas suited my idea of the 'dramatic aspect' especially the lake - i loved the way it looked! With Katie being the editor i feel like she can make those shots look very interesting and dramatic and of course visually pleasing. Looking at some of the footage ...
