Major Project - Evaluation

Image
'Moj Tata, My Father' Evaluation An evaluation is a key part of a project, looking over the entire project thinking about what could've gone better, what went well etc. I'm going to start from the beginning. Before I had even started 3rd year I knew I wanted to create a passion project abroad, I knew this would be difficult in a group so I prepared myself to work alone, anyhow I don't really work well in group projects a lot of people don't really see eye to eye with me and my ideas. I wanted to create a personal, heart-warming documentary about something that is close to my hear, I wanted to tell a story that would really get the audience to be intrigued. Planning this story was a very long winded situation, it was changed over 6 times, developed and improved. It was keen for me to understand the reasons why I am doing it. Originally I wanted to create a documentary about Eastern Europeans struggling with their lives in the UK but it was too vague, nothing

Major Project - Editing Process

Image
Originally I was looking forward to this process since it is my favourite area but when I started the post-production process I came across a lot of issues and crashes. When looking over the clips I was fairly happy with the amount of footage I have and the sound that the Tascam gave me. I struggled to find a starting point, I wasn't sure exactly how to start the documentary, I had a vision in my head and it was written down on script but it did not seem right to actually follow. However, I started the edit with following the script and footage throughout because this way I could have kept changing and improving but at least I finally had somewhere to start. When I started to edit the process took a very long time especially since I had to add subtitles over the interviews. I felt confident with the way the editing process was going until a few feedback sessions with Simon, he gave me a lot of great feedback to go and work on.  When editing I had many different rough cuts edited,

Major Project - 'Moj Tata, My Father' Poster

Image
While making and editing my project I have decided to make a poster to represent my work. Since I was multi-skilled I had a lot on my plate, the poster was the last thing I was thinking about. However, it is nice to have since it can be printed and shown off to others, letting them see what they are in for. I really like the look of my poster since you don't really know what you're in for, I love the combination. I originally wanted to put a photo of me and my father in the picture but it seemed to be like too much of a giveaway or what's to be seen.  The main reason for my poster is for the audience to understand the demographic and that it is specifically made by me. I've noticed that a lot of posters have many different people credited at the front but since my documentary was literally thought out and made entirely by me with the help of a 2-man crew I decided to credit myself on the poster. Of course both UCA and TV Production logos are on the poster since I'

Major Project - Shoot Completed - Reflection

After completing my shoot I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about it. Looking back at the footage I am happy with the amount of material I have but not so sure about the story or what I managed to get out of the contributors. Originally I was not looking forward to looking back at my footage, mostly the main reason for that is that I will critique my own work and not like it. Then again there is ALWAYS room for improvement, nothing is perfect. What I wish that I had done a little differently was really focus on the shoot and not to get distracted by the weather or my sickness. When I arrived in Poland I ended up getting really Ill and this had a major impact on my footage, that can be clearly seen! Because I was feeling under the weather and visited the doctors on location I was feeling very unmotivated to film but my crew kept me going.  When I first imported the clips into Adobe I had no idea where to start, I filmed a lot of material over 90gb of footage. This made me very c
