Commissions - Dockyard

Even though i was not able to make this trip my group informed me of what happened and what they learnt that day, so i decided to write about what they have told me and make sure to learn from it also.

The main reason for the visit to the Dockyard was to film a section of the dockyard and film a sequence so that we could practice filming on a busy location with public. My group also needed to consider risk assessments and permissions. Without permission you are not allowed to film with a camera crew and big Sony Cameras.

Once the tour was over for my group they had an assignment to do. It was to create an attraction film. They were given ropery, and they had to carry out a risk assessment to make sure that the filming was safe enough to proceed with.

My group ended up realising that after they had filmed their clips there was a number of issues with their footage. They found that they had not enough establishing shots and had broken the 180 degree rule several times. But this was of course to practice and make sure that those mistakes are learnt and never done again. However they did capture some brilliant shots and cutaways. Part of their filming involved demonstration by the rope-makers, which was a very quick process. Here is the final cut created by Alex and Jason;
