Livvy Haydock on set of Girl Gangs
Livvy Haydock does a lot of work on BBC3, since the channels main focus is young audiences that are aged 16-35. BBC3 mostly creates drama, comedy and entertainment is the main focus. While we were making our documentary we wanted to make sure that we focus on drama and entertainment to make sure that we have young audiences attention. Livvy Haydock does this very well since she herself is young and interesting.

Young girl being hidden
One popular documentary that Livvy Haydock has presented in is Girl Gangs. She is 31 years old and has a huge passion for film making, focusing on the darker stories and dramas of people around the world. She has always wanted to raise awareness within BBC3 channels. She has always been pitching and picking sore project subjects that would really interest young people. She takes on hard research and the production of creating it. Livvy is a passionate film maker who loves to create short films and to entertain her audiences, she is someone who inspired our group to create something that a young audience would love and be interested in. The way that she films her documentaries is exactly how we wanted to films ours.

Establishing shot of London
Livvy has produced many episodes of 'Drugs Inc' where she investigates the narcotics creation and trafficking across the world, and 'Girl Gangs' where she discovers the struggles of teenage girls who get themselves in dangers situations. With 'Girl Gangs' she really focuses on young woman in urban sides of London that are dangerous and known for peer pressure. This documentary we have already seen a few times in lectures where me and my group got inspired from, this particular documentary has a dark feel to it due to it including drugs and violence where as our documentary talks about the dangers of young drivers weather it is a myth or not. Livvy decided to hide almost every girl that she featured in the documentary for their privacy and protection without putting them at great risk. Although she does use shots of different parts of the body so we could really create a character profile and know how each girl is presented. Livvy also thought about using many GV shots and especially establishing shots that really expressed the location which she was in. Once the audience is set in a location with an establishing shot it really sets the scene and makes us think of what kind of characters we are just about to meet. The locations really give us a large visual of where the girls are actually from and what sorts of problems they face on a every day basis. Me and my group also took this idea and decided to shoot a lot of GV's and Establishing shots to express to our audience where they are and what is happening in that particular shot.

What me and my group liked about Livvy's cutaways it that they are close and personal, we really wanted to make sure that the audience is listening to what we have to stay and are exactly knowing what we are doing. Here Livvy is driving to London and is talking to the audience, we did a similar thing to where Alex was on his way to an interview and we wanted to make sure that the audience was aware of that situation.

I feel like Livvy really tries to connect with her audience and that is exactly what our group tried to do. We really tried to put a point across where to why young drivers are the cause of accidents and that is the reason to why they pay so much for insurance. Alex really did a great job presenting because he communicated with the audience in a great way just like Livvy does in 'Girl Gangs'.

Livvy Driving A Car

Here we have two establishing shots one done by my group and one done by Livvy, i feel like this is a great shot to express where the presenter is or where they are heading. While we are making sure to have a connection between the presenters and the audience we always want to make sure that they know where they are or where we are going.  Whilst the filter is being shown and the location we could also use these shots to back up what point we are trying to get across. These facts do not have to be heavy but it will show the audience that there has been research included.

Alex Driving A Car
This is what Livvy does very well because she works hard on her research and uses the best resources. While we do not want to overload our viewers with facts and statistics we want to make sure that they know that we are including facts and we know exactly what we are talking about, while we do this we need figures and statistics to back up all of our points. I feel like this is a very important factor of a documentary.

Livvy has also worked on other documentaries such as 'Breaking into Prison' where Haydock explores prisoners and their life style. She goes around speaking to people inside the prison and the people who help smuggle in the contraband. Haydock understands how contraband gets into the prisons. This documentary follows a very smilier style to 'Girl Gangs' where it is dark and interesting. Throughout the entire documentary Haydock uses a diagram to come up with after she has spoken about something important. It is a diagram that helps the audience receive a visual of where the contraband comes from and what it goes through to get to the prison. This is a very interesting technique that Haydock uses within this documentary because she really wants to keep a close connection with her viewers making sure that what she understands they understand better.

In most of Haydock's documentaries she uses very similar styles. She always introduces the documentary by traveling to the destination which is where me and my group had the inspiration from she really connects to her audience that way because it seems like it is just her in the car and no-one else but us the viewers. She then sets the scene by telling the audience her objective and how she will achieve what she came to do, which Alex does also during our introduction for the documentary. This way the audience knows what our objective is and how we will achieve it.

Haydock's documentaries are short and sweet which is one of my documentary rules! You never want to bore your audience to where they do not want to carry on watching. Livvy is a great filmmaker and she really knows how to express her feelings forward to her audiences. Haydock always tries to get what she can for her documentary she will never stop which is very inspiring. She is a brilliant film maker and a very inspiring person because she is the one who will create a documentary about something dangerous and risky, but she wants to find out the answers for her viewers and when she commits she doesn't stop until she has the answers.
