The 3rd year is generated towards you focusing your skills and interests
Pre-production (30 credits)
Individual or small group based
Two distinct choices
Largely self-directed
Tutorial and seminar support throughout
Submission of project Dec 11th
The aim of this unit is to produce a detailed pre-production package for an original production
This year there are two distinct choices as to how you fulfil this brief
Professional pre-production package
Example 1 - Professional pre-production choice
Adaptation of a Manga comic book series into an HBO action/drama series
Major project - New stand-alone 15 minute documentary
Example 2 - Professional pre-production choice
Agatha raised adaptation in ITV series
Worked alone
Major project choice - Producer of existing major project
Example 3 - Major project pre-production choice
Working as a writer/director of short drama routes with producer partner Tim
Example 4 - Pre-production Long form screen-writing
The developed pilot episode as a script writer
Major project long form screenwriting - completed 5 episodes (30 pages each)
Example 5 - Pre-production major project
Writer / Director of a dramatic project called inoculum with producer Charlie Ansell
The major project was changed - Mark did a long-form writing project
Charlie went off to work on another major project
Professional Pre-production choice
A large-scale idea that is aimed at competing with what is currently on television.
A package that communicates your idea to a potential broadcaster commissioner - but you will not be actually making the production.
The package can be made of a variety of elements, pitch, script, casting, production design.
Major project pre-production
Maximum length is a set at 20 minutes
Apart from extreme circumstances, major pre-production will go into production made my solely one person.
In the pre-production unit, you will develop a detailed plan for the project, including treatment, synopsis, research.
External collaboration, people who are not currently studying on the course.
