Digital Innovation

Online videos are very important, the way they are edited and formatted. They tell the story by asking a question 'Is mount everest the deadliest mountain?' Length of video is very important, what works for what story? 60-90 seconds is a good time, information no dialogue. Story telling is very important, instead of using a reporter + pictures use text, graphics and intense music. People consume this differently, audiences want to be part of the story they want to see what is actually happening. Find different ways to tell a story, allow the person who is affected by the story to tell the story in their own way, people feel more connected to the person who is actually affected by the story. Visualise the audio, people usually do not connect with audio. How are we telling the story, the innovation around digital videos is growing and it's important.

All the ELEMENTS are important, online we can stop and start when we are live there is no room for mistakes. What you shoot should drive how you write and how you write should drive your editing. Scripting is very important - use the script as a template for guiding your edit. You research should always be a plan for your shoot, story needs to be accurate not FAKE.

- Interviews, vox pops and set ups
- Sequences and actuality
- GVs/archive
- PTCs and walky talkies
- GFX

When we write out piece we have to introduce the people who are in the scene, background information is important as well as having a body of argument. - Expert opinion - Stats - etc. Consider your formatting and style, do we have motives? What do we want to use? Don't forget to entertain as well as informing.

Engage the audience by locations and atmospheres, engage them with the person on screen.

- Shoot action, preferably with people/animated beings in them!
- Let the action happen, camera moves best for framing
- Always shoot set up sequences
- Close ups are best, aim for around 40-50% of the piece on a CU
- Don't rush!
- Instant edit points, let the subject enter and leave
- Get good COVERAGE
- Take time to check your kit and choose the best condition
- Lighting is very important, make sure you have key lighting
- Eye level for interviewees

Don't use or steal other images/videos, buy shoot or get permission. Always good to get your own footage, we only use stick footage if it's difficult to get a hold of or get into.

Shooting on location

Get footage/photos of people and tourists on locations so you have FILLERS. Discuss what you need, then create the story. Think all the time about the structure, possible PCTs are everywhere. Your camera crew is very important, write down what shots you have! Good establishes, places you need permission to film. Always think of the people, be careful what you say/film. Think about your safety and the crews safety! Using archives are also very helpful! Talk to your interviewer before shooting, make sure they are good talkers. Local knowledge is crucial, always have options! Main purpose of the piece, we understand his anger? Prepare as much as you can before hand, think about what you are filming and why?

Group dynamics are very important.

Note down good answers

Make sure everything fits your target, any ideas you have note them down TRY them. Be clear about who it is for, research the possible stories, check out other possible content! Sense of how we are telling the story. Always have a plan B, never rely on just plan A.
